Catching up on some scenery
There isn't a lot of exposed tabletop with all the track on it, but I'll try to
make what little bit that is exposed interesting. I'm trying out Woodland Scenics
"Ready Grass"
mats. It's vinyl and you can cut it and lay it on top of stuff like newspaper
then go over it with a heat gun and it'll form itself to that shape.
I
used the "mountainside" that I had made with the plaster cloth and never
finished for the base for my "Ready Grass". I cut it into strips.
I cut the Ready Grass about 3" wider than it needed
to be, putting it under the track on one side and letting it just flop over the
backside. After heating it with my heatgun it melts down and assumes the shape
of the plaster cloth underneath.
I picked up a Grandstand for 8 bucks on EBAY and I've put
some Ninco stone wall along some of my main straight. I have to take the stone
wall off and do some painting on it though. I'm going to go over it with a thin
"wash" of black so it gets in between the "stones" to hightlight
them. I'll do all 12 of the pieces with a sponge brush and after they dry just
go over them with a rag and wipe the thinned paint off the high spots, leaving
the "spaces" between the rocks darkened. I also
did a little work on the inside of the big turn section of the track too. It still
needs a little fine detail work.I'll do that when I bring the scenery down the
middle of the 2 straights that lead to it.

I've
started cutting the Woodland Scenics Retaining Walls that will be used to cover
the wood that supports the upper level like they do on the other end of the track.
More to come
