The Retaining Walls
I went down and picked up the 10 packages of Woodland Scenics Cut Stone Retaining Walls I ordered. They come 3 sections in a package. They're a little wider than 3" each so I have about enough to do close to 8' of straightaway.

I had to scrape off the rough edges then I cut them down to 4&1/4". I'm going to use the part the came off as Pit Wall sections. I used the dremel with a fiberglass cutoff wheel to cut them. Rather than glue them to the wood I decided to Velcro them. This is a short section that I'll be able to use as a part of the whole piece when I get the lumber later today or early tomorrow morning.

The track will sit on top of the cross pieces and there will be a thin piece of wood(about the thickness of paneling) on the far side of the track for the mountain pieces to sit on. I'm making the mountains on my RC workbench then setting them on the layout. With the newer lightweight plaster cloth it's easy to do. I'll have pictures.

I've given these panels a light spraying of Grey. I'll give them another of very thin Black. The thin Black will run between the stones and bring out the highlights.

I've elevated part of the main straightaway and done 5 feet of it with the retaining walls. I only had 5' of Velcro. It's only temporary for now. I can look at it and see if there are any improvements I need to make when it becomes permanent. That'll be as soon as Ninco comes out with their N-Digital.
